3. User Responsibilities

Acceptable Use

You agree to use Sonora only for lawful purposes and in accordance with these Terms. You agree not to:

  • Unauthorized Recording: Record conversations without proper consent from all parties where required by law
  • Illegal Content: Use the app to create, store, or transmit illegal or harmful content
  • Law Violations: Violate any local, state, national, or international laws or regulations
  • Privacy Infringement: Infringe upon others' privacy, intellectual property, or other legal rights
  • Reverse Engineering: Attempt to reverse engineer, modify, or hack the application
  • Commercial Misuse: Use the service for unauthorized commercial purposes
  • Harmful Activities: Engage in activities that could harm the app, its users, or our services

Content Responsibility

  • Full Ownership: You are solely responsible for the content you record and store
  • Recording Rights: You must ensure you have the legal right to record any audio content
  • Legal Compliance: You are responsible for complying with recording consent laws in your jurisdiction
  • Content Security: You acknowledge that you control access to your recorded content

Recording Laws: You are responsible for complying with all applicable recording and consent laws in your jurisdiction. Some areas require consent from all parties before recording conversations. Please research and understand your local laws.

4. Privacy and Data

Your privacy is fundamental to how we've built Sonora. Please review our comprehensive Privacy Policy to understand how we collect, use, and protect your information. Key highlights:

  • No Permanent Storage: We do not permanently store your audio content on our servers

5. Service Limitations and Availability

  • iOS Compatibility: Requires iOS 17.0 or later for full feature compatibility
  • Network Dependency: Transcription and AI analysis require stable internet connectivity
  • Storage: Limited by your device's available storage space
  • Battery: Recording and processing features require adequate battery life

Service Availability

We are committed to providing reliable service while being transparent about limitations:

  • Uptime Goal: We strive for 99% uptime but cannot guarantee uninterrupted service
  • Maintenance: Scheduled maintenance windows may cause temporary service interruptions
  • Third-Party Dependencies: External services (transcription, AI) may affect availability
  • Feature Evolution: We reserve the right to modify or enhance features with notice
  • Performance Optimization: We continuously work to improve speed and reliability

6. Intellectual Property Rights

App Ownership

Sonora, including its design, code, features, user interface, and documentation, is owned by Samuel Kahessay and protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws.

Your Content Rights

  • Complete Ownership: You retain full ownership of your recorded content and transcriptions
  • Limited License: You grant us only the minimal license necessary to process your content for app functionality
  • No Ownership Claims: We do not claim ownership of your voice recordings or generated transcriptions
  • Temporary Processing: Our license expires when processing is complete or when you delete content
  • Purpose Limitation: We can only use your content to provide the specific features you request

Usage Restrictions

  • No Copying: You may not copy, distribute, or create derivative works of the app
  • No Reverse Engineering: You may not reverse engineer or attempt to extract source code
  • No Trademark Use: You may not use our trademarks, logos, or branding without written permission
  • No Resale: You may not resell, redistribute, or sublicense the app

7. Disclaimers and Limitations

Service Disclaimers

While we strive for excellence, we want to be transparent about limitations:

  • Transcription Accuracy: AI transcription is provided "as-is" and may contain errors depending on audio quality, accents, and content
  • AI Analysis Reliability: AI-generated insights are suggestions and may not always be completely accurate
  • Network Dependencies: Service interruptions may occur due to internet connectivity or external service issues
  • Device Compatibility: Performance may vary across different iPhone models and iOS versions
  • Battery Impact: Recording and AI processing features will consume battery power

No Professional Advice

Important: Insights generated by Sonora are for informational and organizational purposes only. They are not a substitute for professional advice (including medical, legal, financial, or mental health guidance). Do not rely on Sonora's AI analysis for decisions requiring professional judgment.

Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR:

  • Indirect Damages: Any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages
  • Data Loss: Loss of recordings, transcriptions, or other data (backup your important content)
  • Business Interruption: Loss of profits, business interruption, or operational delays
  • Service Issues: Damages resulting from service interruptions, transcription errors, or technical problems
  • Third-Party Actions: Actions or omissions of third-party service providers

8. Termination

User Termination

You may stop using Sonora at any time by deleting the app from your device. Your locally stored data will be removed with the app deletion.

Service Termination by Us

We may terminate or suspend your access to Sonora if you:

  • Terms Violation: Violate these Terms of Service or our Privacy Policy
  • Illegal Use: Use the service for illegal, harmful, or abusive purposes
  • Security Threats: Attempt to compromise the security or integrity of the service
  • Prohibited Activities: Engage in activities that harm other users or our services

Effects of Termination

  • Local Data: Your device-stored content remains under your control
  • Server Data: Any data in processing will be deleted according to our retention policies
  • Feature Access: You will lose access to cloud-based features like transcription and AI analysis
  • Terms Survival: Certain provisions (like intellectual property rights) survive termination

9. Updates and Modifications

App Updates

We regularly improve Sonora to provide you with the best possible experience:

  • Feature Enhancements: New features and improvements based on user feedback

Assignment

You may not assign your rights under these Terms without our written consent. We may assign our rights and obligations under these Terms to any third party.

Force Majeure

We shall not be liable for any delay or failure to perform due to causes beyond our reasonable control, including natural disasters, war, terrorism, or government actions.
